The Button Swatch option in MultiVariants lets customers select product customization choices from clickable buttons. You can allow one or multiple selections, add an optional image and price to each choice, set default selections, and display one shared button row or separate buttons for each variant.
Before You Start: Make sure the product is included in the ruleset where you want to add the Button Swatch option. The option will appear on products that the ruleset applies to.

How to Set Up a Custom Button Swatch Option
Follow these steps to create and configure a Button Swatch option.
Step#1 Open Product Options
>> Go to the MultiVariants dashboard, open an existing ruleset or create a new one, open the Product Options tab, and click + Add option.
Step#2 Select the Button Swatch Option
>> Select Button Swatch from the available option types and click Add option.
Step#3 Choose Single or Multiple Selection
>> Choose how customers can select the Button Swatch choices:
Single choice swatch — allows customers to select only one button at a time.
Multiple choice swatch — allows customers to select multiple buttons from the available choices.
Step#4 Configure the Button Swatch Settings
>> Configure the fields based on how you want the Button Swatch option to appear and behave on the storefront.
Option title — enter the heading customers will see above the button choices, such as “Choose your phone model.”
Short description — add an optional short description to explain what customers should choose.
Help text — add optional instructions or supporting information below the Button Swatch choices.
Required — set to Yes if customers must select at least one Button Swatch choice before adding the product to the cart.
Display on each variant — leave this unchecked to show one shared row of Button Swatches above the bulk-order section. Check it to display a separate button row under each variant so customers can make different selections for individual variants.
Step#5 Add Your Button Swatch Choices
>> Add the choices customers will see as buttons on the storefront. Each row contains the following settings:
Swatch Title — enter the text customers will see inside the button, such as “Small,” “Model A,” or “Matte.” The title can contain up to 100 characters.
Image — upload an optional image or icon to display with the Button Swatch choice.
Price — enter an optional additional charge for this Button Swatch choice. Leave it blank if the choice should not add an extra charge.
Default — select the Button Swatch choice you want pre-selected when the product page loads. With Single choice, you can set one default. With Multiple choice, you can pre-select more than one choice.
Click + Add attribute to add another Button Swatch choice. Drag the handle beside a choice to change the order in which the buttons appear on the storefront.
Example: For a phone case, you could add “iPhone 16,” “iPhone 16 Pro,” and “iPhone 16 Pro Max” as Button Swatch choices, set one as the default, and add an extra price to a specific model if needed.
Step#6 Save the Button Swatch Option
Click Save in the top save bar after reviewing the Button Swatch settings.
Step#7 Test the Button Swatch Option on Your Storefront
Open a product page where the ruleset applies and test the Button Swatch option. Confirm that the buttons appear correctly, single or multiple selection works as expected, default choices are pre-selected, any add-on prices are applied correctly, and required selections are enforced.
Manage Button Swatch Placement and Styling
Add Another Product Option
>> Click + Add more options if you want to add another Product Option to the same ruleset.
Choose the Button Swatch Placement
Placement — determines whether the Button Swatch option appears above or below the MultiVariants listing on the product page.
>> Click the gear icon at the top of the Product Options tab, select Above MultiVariants listing or Below MultiVariants listing, and click Save changes.
Customize the Button Swatch Style
>> Click the gear icon at the top-right of the Button Swatch option card to adjust the available styling settings, including border colors, background, text color, and border radius. Click Customize to apply the changes.
Common Mistakes
Customers can select more than one Button Swatch
Check the selection type. Choose Single choice swatch if customers should be able to select only one button at a time.
Customers can add the product without selecting a Button Swatch
Set Required to Yes if customers must select at least one Button Swatch choice before adding the product to the cart.
The wrong Button Swatch is selected when the page loads
Check the Default setting and confirm that the correct choice is selected as the default. If you use Multiple choice, check whether more than one choice has been set as default.
Selecting a Button Swatch increases the price
Check the Price field for that choice. Remove or update the value if selecting the Button Swatch should not add an extra charge.
I need different Button Swatch selections for each variant
Enable Display on each variant to show a separate set of Button Swatches under each variant row.
