If Melon does what you need, keep it. It has a 5.0 rating from 393 reviews, the Built for Shopify badge, and unlimited rules for $8.99 a month. The best Melon MOQ alternative depends on why you want to leave: MultiVariants if buyers order many variants at once, Madgic for unlimited rules at $4.99, Avada for per-customer limits by day, month, year or lifetime, and Minmaxify for Buy Now buttons and checkout UI extensions on Shopify Plus.
Most "Melon alternative" pages list ten apps with no prices and no downsides. This one compares four, with every plan price read from the App Store on 5 November 2026, what each app won't do, and how to switch without a day when your limits stop working.

Melon and four alternatives on rating, free plan, price, and best use.
Key takeaways
Melon is a strong app. It sets minimums and maximums by product, variant, collection, tag, or vendor, by quantity, value, or weight, for $0 to $15.99 a month. Don't switch for the sake of it.
Melon's Essential and Advanced plans exclude Shopify Plus stores. Plus stores pay $15.99.
Madgic is the cheapest way to get unlimited rules: $4.99 a month. Melon's $4.99 plan has 5 active rules.
Avada gives per-customer repurchase limits by day, month, year or lifetime, and a free plan that blocks up to 50 over-limit carts.
Minmaxify supports Buy Now buttons ($20) and checkout UI extensions ($50 Plus plan), but has no free plan and no Built for Shopify badge.
MultiVariants is the only one of the five that changes how buyers fill the cart: every variant in one table, with minimums per variant, per option, or across all variants. It costs more than Melon if all you need is a cart minimum.
Check Shopify first. Since April 2026, every Shopify plan includes B2B quantity rules. If your limits only apply to B2B companies, you may not need an app at all.
The five apps at a glance

How we compared these apps
We read each app's App Store listing on 5 November 2026: plans, prices, features per plan, languages, trial length, badge, and any stated limits. We didn't install the competitors for this post, so where a listing is unclear, we say so instead of guessing. We left out checkout customizer apps (such as Blockify or Kedra) that do order limits as one feature among many, because they answer a different question.
Why you might stay with Melon
Melon (by Fruit Labs) covers more than most stores need. From its listing:
Minimum order quantity (MOQ) and minimum order value (MOV) by product, variant, collection, product tag, and vendor.
Limits by quantity, value or weight.
Packs and multiples, for example "sold in 6s".
Re-purchase limits per customer, and rules for wholesale customers, tags, or groups.
Rule types including time-based, purchase frequency, and geolocation rules.
Compatibility with Shopify Checkout Rules, so limits are checked at checkout, not just in the cart.
Messages in 21 languages, which is more than any other app here.
Melon plan | Price per month | Active rules | Notes |
Free | $0 | 1 (plus unlimited test rules) | Checkout Rules included |
Essential | $4.99 | 5 | Adds progress bar and upsell, live chat. Not for Plus stores |
Advanced | $8.99 | Unlimited | Feature requests. Not for Plus stores |
Shopify Plus | $15.99 | Unlimited | Priority support, for Plus stores |
One thing to check: Melon's Essential and Advanced plans say "All stores except Shopify Plus stores". If you're on Plus, your real price is $15.99, not $4.99. The paid plans have a 7-day free trial.
If you sell retail products with a few simple limits, such as "max 2 per order" on a limited drop or "minimum $50 order", Melon at $8.99 is hard to beat. Don't switch unless you hit one of the gaps below.
Why stores look for a Melon MOQ alternative
The usual reasons for leaving fall into four groups:
1. Buyers order many variants at once. Wholesale and B2B buyers order 6 sizes in 4 colors. A limit app checks the cart after they've added each variant by hand. It doesn't make ordering faster.
2. Cost per rule. A store with 20 rules pays $8.99 on Melon, or $4.99 on Madgic.
3. Limits per customer over time. "One per customer per month" offers, drops, and subscriptions need limits that track a customer across orders.
4. Theme or checkout setup. Older themes with Buy Now buttons, or Plus stores that want checkout UI extensions.

Pick the Melon alternative by the reason you're leaving.
Alternative 1: MultiVariants, for buyers who order many variants
Order limit apps check the cart. They don't change how buyers fill it. If a buyer needs 4 sizes in 3 colors, they pick a size, pick a color, add to cart, and repeat 12 times. Then the cart tells them they're 6 units short of your minimum, and they go back to the product page.
MultiVariants puts every variant of a product in one table with a quantity box each, and checks your limits in that table before the cart. The buyer types quantities, sees the total, and adds everything in one click.

The same 24-unit minimum, checked in the cart (left) and in a bulk order table (right).
Which limits MultiVariants sets
From the MultiVariants App Store listing, on the Professional plan:
Minimum and maximum per variant, or on the combined total of all variants. A combined minimum of 24 accepts 10 navy M and 14 grey L. Shopify's own B2B rules can't do this, because they count each variant on its own.
Minimum per option, for example, at least 12 red across all sizes. Useful when you print or dye in batches.
Minimum and maximum number of variants per order, for example "pick at least 3 flavors".
Step quantities and case packs, for example multiples of 4 or 12.
Minimum and maximum cart value per product.
The Standard plan adds a global cart minimum, list, grid, and matrix layouts, B2B catalog pricing, and customer eligibility rules, so you can show the table only to logged-in or tagged buyers. Read more in our guide to Shopify minimum order quantity.

Min/max rules per variant and on the combined total, with the message buyers see in the table.

A minimum per option: at least 12 red across all sizes.

Step quantities: each variant must be ordered in multiples of 4.
What MultiVariants costs
Plan | Price per month | What it adds for order limits |
Starter | Free | Variant list with quantity inputs, one-click bulk add, stock display, up to 2,048 variants |
Standard | $12.99 | List, grid and matrix layouts, global cart minimum, B2B catalog pricing, customer eligibility, 24/7 live chat |
Professional | $29.99 | Min/max per variant or combined, minimum per option, variant count limits, step quantities, custom options and file upload, min/max cart value per product |
Both paid plans have a 14-day free trial, and annual billing saves 20%. MultiVariants is in 15 languages.
What Melon does better than MultiVariants
Price for simple limits. If you only need "minimum $50 order", Melon's free or $4.99 plan does it. MultiVariants' per-variant rules are on the $29.99 plan.
Retail rule types. Melon lists weight-based, purchase frequency, geolocation, and per-customer re-purchase rules. MultiVariants is built around the bulk order table, not around repeat-purchase tracking.
Languages. Melon lists 21 languages to our 15.
Choose MultiVariants when ordering speed is the problem, not just the rule. Our comparison of MultiVariants vs MinMaxify goes deeper on the bulk table.sdfsd

Alternative 2: Madgic, for unlimited rules at the lowest price
Madgic Order Limits Quantity has a 4.9 rating from 182 reviews and the Built for Shopify badge. Its one paid plan is $4.99 a month ($49.99 a year) with unlimited rules. Melon's $4.99 plan has 5 active rules, and its unlimited plan is $8.99.
What Madgic does that the others don't list:
Maximums that adjust when stock is low. The listing says it can "auto-adjust maximum quantities while low stock". It doesn't explain the logic, so test it on one product first.
Products that can't be bought together, for example, a sample and the full-size version.
Purchase limits per customer, once ever or once every set number of days, weeks, or months.
Exact-quantity rules, as well as MOQ, maximums, multiples, value, and weight.
What to know before you switch: the listing is in English only, so if you show limit messages in several languages, check whether you can write them yourself. The free plan has a limited number of rules, and the paid plan has a 7-day trial.
Alternative 3: Avada, for per-customer limits over time
Avada Order Limits Quantity has a 5.0 rating from 282 reviews and the Built for Shopify badge. Its standout is time-based limits per customer: "Quantity limit per customer by day, month, year, lifetime". That suits product drops, "one per customer per month" offers, and limited-edition runs.
Melon and Madgic also offer purchase-frequency limits, so this isn't unique. What Avada adds is a clear set of time windows and a generous free plan:
Free plan: blocks up to 50 over-limit carts, with limits by value, quantity or weight; product, variant and collection limits; customer tag limits; multiples; scheduled limits; Shopify checkout rules validation; and auto-translated messages.
Paid plans ($9.99, $19.99, $24.99): the same features, with unlimited blocked carts, re-purchase limits, product exclusions and 24/7 live chat. The price depends on your Shopify plan, not on extra features.
Shopify Flow: listed under "Works with", so you can trigger workflows from limits.
What to know before you switch: the free plan stops blocking after 50 over-limit carts, so a busy store will need a paid plan. The listing shows 6 languages, but the description says 30, so check yours is supported.
Alternative 4: Minmaxify, for older setups and Plus checkout
Minmaxify Order Limits (by Intillium) has been on the App Store since 2012, with a 4.8 rating from 179 reviews. It has no free plan, only a 7-day trial, and no Built for Shopify badge.
Minmaxify plan | Price per month | What it adds |
Standard | $10 | General per-cart limits, checkout validation, single-language messages |
Premium | $20 | Rules and groups, multilingual messages, support for Buy Now buttons |
Plus | $50 | Checkout UI extensions |
Choose it if your theme relies on Buy Now buttons that skip the cart, or you're on Plus and want limit messages inside checkout. One limit to read carefully: its listing says it "Does Not Support Discounts or Customer Tags Such as Wholesale", while its feature list mentions customer tag-based limits. Ask their support how it handles your wholesale tags before you install.
Prices side by side

The cheapest paid plan of each app, and what it includes.
The cheapest paid plan doesn't tell the whole story. Here's what the same need costs in each app:
You need | Melon | Avada | Madgic | Minmaxify | MultiVariants |
One cart minimum | Free | Free (up to 50 blocked carts) | Free | $10 | $12.99 |
10 product rules | $8.99 | Free or $9.99 | $4.99 | $20 | $29.99 |
A Shopify Plus store | $15.99 | $9.99 to $24.99, set by your Shopify plan | $4.99 | $50 for checkout UI | $12.99 or $29.99 |
Minimum per option (12 red) | Not listed | Not listed | Not listed | Not listed | $29.99 |
A bulk order table | No | No | No | No | Free (list); $12.99 (matrix) |
"Not listed" means the feature isn't on the app's listing. It may be possible with a workaround, so ask the developer.

Questions to ask before you pick an order limit app
A comparison table can't know your store. Before you install a Shopify order limit app, answer these six questions. They usually make the choice for you.
1. Who do the limits apply to? All shoppers, tagged wholesale customers, or B2B companies in a Shopify catalog? If it's only B2B companies, try Shopify's native quantity rules first.
2. Do buyers order one variant or many? One variant at a time means any limit app works. Many sizes or colors in one order points to a bulk order table.
3. What do you count? Units, order value, weight, number of different variants, or units of one option such as a color. Write your three most important rules in plain words, then check each app's listing for every one.
4. Does the limit need a memory? "Max 2 per order" doesn't. "One per customer per month" does, which narrows the list to Melon, Avada and Madgic.
5. Which plan are you on? Plus changes the price of Melon and Minmaxify.
6. Which languages do your messages need? Melon lists 21, MultiVariants 15, Avada 6, Madgic and Minmaxify English.
If two apps still tie, install both trials on a development store and test the same three rules. Seven days (or 14 for MultiVariants) is enough to see how each one shows its messages on your theme. Our guide on how to choose a Shopify order limit app has a longer checklist.
Example: which app a print shop should use
This is a worked example, not a customer. A print shop sells blank and branded hoodies. It has three kinds of buyer:
Retail shoppers who buy one or two hoodies. The shop wants "max 5 per order" on a limited colorway.
Teams and offices who order 40 to 100 hoodies in mixed sizes. The shop needs at least 24 per order, and at least 12 of any one color because it prints by color batch.
Resellers with a wholesale tag who order in multiples of 6.
Melon handles the retail limit and the reseller multiples well. It doesn't speed up the 60-hoodie team order, and it can't express "at least 12 red across all sizes".
MultiVariants handles all three on the Professional plan: a maximum on the limited colorway, a combined 24-unit minimum and a 12-per-color minimum in a matrix table, and steps of 6 for tagged resellers. For this shop, MultiVariants replaces Melon instead of sitting beside it. A shop with only the retail limit should stay on Melon. See our guide to apparel wholesale ordering for size-run tips.
Check this before you install anything
Since 2 April 2026, Basic, Grow and Advanced stores get Shopify's B2B features at no extra cost, including quantity rules and volume pricing (Shopify changelog). B2B quantity rules let you set a minimum, a maximum and an increment for each variant in a B2B catalog (Shopify Help Center).
That may be all you need. It isn't enough if:
Your limits apply to retail customers. Native quantity rules only apply to B2B customers buying through a catalog.
Buyers mix variants. Shopify's Help Center says customers can't combine variants to meet a quantity rule. 5 grey hats and 5 blue hats don't meet an increment of 10.
You need more than three price groups below Plus. On Basic, Grow and Advanced, catalogs are assigned through B2B markets, with up to three active catalog assignments (Shopify Help Center).
You need value, weight, per-customer or per-option limits.
Also note that Shopify Scripts stopped running on 30 June 2026. If you used a Script for order limits, you need an app or a Shopify Function now. Our guides to Shopify quantity rules vs apps and custom code vs order limit apps show where each route stops, and Shopify's B2B update covers what changed in April.
How to switch from Melon without a gap
The risk in switching is a window where no limits run, or where both apps run and buyers see two messages. Keep Melon on until the new app passes your tests.
1. List every Melon rule. For each one, write down the target (product, variant, collection, tag or vendor), the min, max and multiple, any customer tag, and the message text. A screenshot of each rule is enough.
2. Install the new app and rebuild the rules while Melon is still active. Start with the rules that protect margin, such as minimum order value.
3. Test each rule. Use a test product, a draft cart and a test customer with the right tag. Try a quantity under, at and over each limit, on desktop and mobile.
4. Turn Melon's rules off, then uninstall it. Remove any Melon app embed or blocks in your theme editor.
5. Check for leftovers. Look at one product page, the cart drawer, the cart page and checkout for old messages or two sets of messages.

Switch from Melon in five steps, with no gap in your limits.
Do it on a quiet day, not in Black Friday week. If you're mid-season, our Black Friday order limits guide lists the limits worth keeping during peak sales.
Common mistakes when changing order limit apps
Running two limit apps at once. Both can block the same cart, with different messages.
Setting a per-variant minimum when you meant a total. A per-variant minimum of 24 makes a buyer order 24 of every size they pick.
Forgetting Plus pricing. Melon's cheaper plans exclude Plus stores; Minmaxify's checkout UI extensions are on its $50 plan.
Not testing accelerated checkout. Buy Now and Shop Pay buttons can skip the cart. Test them with each rule.
Leaving old messages in the theme. Uninstalling an app doesn't always remove its theme blocks.
The short version
Keep Melon if it covers your rules. Pick a Melon MOQ alternative only for a reason Melon doesn't cover: MultiVariants when buyers order many variants and you need totals or per-option minimums, Madgic for cheaper unlimited rules, Avada for per-customer limits over time, and Minmaxify for Buy Now buttons or Plus checkout UI. And check Shopify's free B2B quantity rules before you install anything.
